I’m An Entrepreneur and I’m Allowed To Sleep!

Posted on March 14, 2014

Ever since I started my business in 2009, I’ve been fascinated by the word balance.

From 2009 – 2011, I thought that in order to be successful, I needed to always be working. I always needed to be on the clock and ready to go. Over the past few years, I’ve learned that balance is actually a good thing and that with the right amount of balance – you can actually achieve more than when you pull all nights (one after another). For 2014, I’m ready to create more boundaries for myself and make balance a larger priority. But how do I do that when everyone around me thinks that I should be working around the clock? Or they expect me to work around the clock? One vendor I work with, likes to say things like, “entrepreneurs never sleep” and expects to do a ton of work on the weekends. The questions I’m asking myself are “When does it end?” “How far does all of this go?” – Will I be satisfied with my life if things keep moving at such a fast pace? Can I really enjoy life when things are moving so quickly?

I can totally relate!  Going through college, it's important to keep in mind that while leadership positions and work experience are essential to getting jobs and internships, they can't be overwhelming to the point of ruining the college experience.  There has to be time for fun!  I'll have to keep that in mind when I enter the real world as well!

I definitely know that I'll need to remember balance in law school/my first years at a lawyer! Thanks for some questions to use to evaluate the pace your're moving at.
