How Waking Up Early Has Changed My Work Life

Posted on October 18, 2017

In my new book, Welcome to the Real World, I talk about the importance of waking up early and how I’ve changed my habits — and now feel so much more accomplished by doing so. If you are an entrepreneur, I highly suggest waking up a bit earlier than you are used to. I  used to sleep until at least 8:30 every day – these days I wake up at 6 or 6:30AM. It’s changed my working life in four major ways.

  • It helps me ease into the day. Whenever I start my day at 9AM PST, I feel so rushed and thrown into my day. When I start early, my inbox isn’t as crazy and I can slowly ease into my day instead of diving right in.
  • I get ahead of the game. Living on the West Coast, it’s hard to start working at 9AM PST; it is already noon on the east coast, and that’s where I do so much of my business. I find that by waking up around 6AM PST, I’m more ahead of the game by 9AM PST and feel much more organized.

  • I am able to break up my day. When I start at 6AM PST, I can get all of my “selling” and “follow ups” out of the way early. By 2PM PST, my day calms down and I’m able to better organize, make to-do lists for the next day, and work on content building and writing.
  • I feel more accomplished. When I get up early, I feel like I’m more focused and get more things checked off my to-do list. Again, when I start at 9AM PST – I feel like I’m constantly getting back to other people rather than being productive and working off my own to-do list.

Totally agree. Plus, I find I wake up more tired when I sleep in than if I wake up around 6AM.
